A year before this show, I took a walk with a friend in this area and we were surprised to see art in the woods! This made me excited to see what I could make that could withstand the elements. When the call came out a few months later, I responded
The Art Ramble theme was Witness Change. I responded to this with an intention to bring attention to trees. When you look down into the mirrored piece on the ground, you immediately will see the trees and the sky above, and yourself. Trees are essential for the environment and thus humans should be protecting all mature trees.
The shape is the silhouette of the 1000 year old tree that was used by Geophysicist & Climatologist Michael Mann to develop the Hockey Stick theory. The etched words are 'reflect, reflect, reflect' which has a double meaning: that the mirror reflects the trees, and requests that the viewer reflects on how important trees and their health is to our world.
