Trying out the white-line wood block print. I feel very lucky living in a place that luckily has not been negatively effected by many floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. But I am away that many places do have these events that destroy homes, communities and kill people. Can we sleep while this is happening? I feel we have to question what we need to do in order to sleep comfortably, and take action to help others in my solution. When we went into Covid isolation time in 2020, my studio spaces were all closed and I was antsy and anxious. Realizing I had a bunch of old magazines, newspapers, etc. I decided to roll up the pages to make 'reed' and then make baskets. The best part was seeing how the colors worked together in the final piece. As a way to mourn, I started to create these crochetted baskets. I would meditate on a word or a short message, and a person, and I would place the message in 'code' into the basket using pony beads as spacers between letters. This would help me sit, meditate, mourn and heal. 2012-2014 were difficult years as I lost many people due to illness and accidents. As a way to heal I created this art work. It was included in a show called Images of Grief and Healing at the Maud Morgan Gallery in Cambridge in 2015. I also created a catalog of the entire show to help others realize they are not alone in grief, and hopefully it will help them heal more easily. Remember the winter of 2015? It did seem to repeat itself in 2025 with the same Sunday/Thursday snow patterns. Here is a design I made to 'honor' the 109" of 2015.
