ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jennifer Fuchel

As an energetic and restless child who loved exploration, my mother handed me a pencil and paper to help me learn to sit still, igniting my passion for drawing. During my teens, I would wake up at 5 AM on Saturdays to attend life drawing classes at the NYC Arts Students League. At SUNY Binghamton, I pursued a major in Fine Arts & Graphic Design while also delving into Anthropology, Computer Science, Geology, and other sciences. Combining my computer skills with design, I began my career in desktop publishing in NYC before transitioning to interactive educational systems in Boston, starting with a project at Logan Airport.
Motivated by this work, I pursued an MFA in Graphic Design at Boston University, specializing in computer animation. Professionally, I developed animations and interactive projects for prominent organizations such as WGBH, Mayo Clinic, Lotus, and IBM. Concurrently, I taught computer graphics at various Boston-area colleges, eventually securing a full-time position at Suffolk University, where I spent 30 fulfilling years before retiring.
Throughout my career, alongside traditional mediums like clay, pencil, and paint, I've explored new materials such as wood, metals, and plastics, driven by my curiosity and love for creation, problem-solving, and continuous learning.

Today I am affiliated with Vernon Street Studios, Mudflats in Somerville, and LexArts, focusing much of my work on nature-themed projects.

The Story Behind
As a child my family and neighbors called me JenNifter. Eventually, this morphed into a nickname that stuck for years — Nifty. As a kid I was a bit embarrassed by this, but since then I have decided to embrace it.
